Word-lessened Wednesday: Chicken Scratch

June 3rd, 2009

notes

Speaking of chicken scratch(Re: #6)… In the ever-relevant words of Charlie Brown, “good grief!” What in the world happened to the cute and clever (if curly), but highly legible penmanship I possessed in 8th grade? I even carried it on through college where it periodically succumbed to all CAPS in drafting classes. Where, oh where, has my handwriting gone? It’s rapidly going the way of my father’s, I’ll tell you! Thanks, Daddy-O!

The above specimen is from the pages of notes I took while reading Bringing Up Geeks, which I’m now trying to decipher in prep for writing about it in MeMyBook&I–probably posting on Monday. Granted, I did make the notes around 1am when I could NOT put the book down and go to sleep already.

Here’s how my brain works. If I write it down, that’s a cue that I don’t need to remember the specifics. Still, I almost always clearly remember my gut reactions and the general verdict, in this case, being completely inspired and excited about reading on had my eyes been able to remain open. Unfortunately, my penmanship is much better in the morning than it is in the wee hours of the morning. So, now I am hard-pressed to decipher a few of the specific Wow-moments of what I KNOW was a very awesome intro and first few chapters.

Can anyone tell me what it says on lines 3 & 9?

By way of explanation: Word-lessened Wednesday–because, really people, “wordless” was a little unrealistic, don’t you think?

    Thankfully, I have a bit of experience with “chicken scratch!” :) Here’s a try:

    * expect more than what culture tells us.

    - the time and energy that I neglect to spend – the effort will be quickly filled by a culture that is relentless in pursuing and having its way with my kids.

    * completely inspired
    - to be the master of culture
    - to be my kids champion by raising my level of expectations beyond what culture ?requires?
    - I believe my children can accomplish so much more than what culture does

    Hope that helps! :)

    Much obliged, R. It’s all coming back to me now :)
