Tues Ten 032409: Ten Serendipities of Late
Filed under The Tuesday Ten | Comments (2)
Serendipity. A happy surprise. I just love that word. It’s perfect for a girl like me. I’m a girl who gets “more excited than the average person about little things,” as several of my friends have independently commented through the years. When I first moved to Starkville to go to college, there was a great little bakery on Hwy 12 W called “Serendipity.” It was long before Shipleys or Barnes & Noble or Coldstone Creamery came along, and it was incredibly, aptly named. I taught “serendipity” to Hub early on because it’s sort of an essential concept in my life, and because it’s sort of a girl word if you think about it. I mean that boys just aren’t really wired to pause for serendipity–a fact I’m working to defy in Squiggle and Little Drummer Boy.
Life can be big and complicated. It’s full of decisions and choices and earth-shattering events and mundane activities. And, it’s also full of serendipities. I’ve found that paying attention to the serendipity makes all that other stuff easier to deal with correctly and creatively.
Commentary for free. Now, on with the list:
1. Finding Baby Girl’s poppy under the cushion of the red chair–serendipity for Mommy. serendipity for baby.
2. Finding I had all the makings for Pineapple Bread Cobbler in the pantry last Tuesday night — yum! to the Mmm!
3. The tweet about 100 free mac apps, part 1 post and the corresponding wacked out wonderful website of resources (hongkiat.com) — double dipity-doo
4. The $4 placemats I found at Wal-mart to jumpstart my Spring — can’t get over how awesome they look with honey mustard on them.
5. Baby Girl learning to roll over and sleep on her tummy :) I can’t believe how much she’s growing!
6. An unexpected hour playing outside with just Little Drummer Boy — who knew gravel could be so cool!
7. The vine with wisteria blooms Hub wrapped around the rear-view mirror of the extended cab pick-up I’m driving right now. Yes, I’m borrowing my Dad’s “farm truck” for a while. Me, 5′ 1″; giant green truck, about 637′. The sweet purple smell of wisteria is just what a big ol’ farm truck needs!
8. My next Eye-Opening quote by Elizabeth Bibesco, found on twitter.
9. Hearing Little Drummer Boy’s retelling of how Daddy got the scar on his eyebrow — fascinating for boys of any age in that “and-then-his-skin-came-open-and-blood-came-out” kinda way, and Mommies too in that “I’m-dreading-that-inevitable-trip-to-the-emergency-room-that-comes-with-boys” kinda way
10. Good night prayers — “bless the moonlight”
Newsflash: It’s already blessed.
