MIPOTW: In Protest

The Most Interesting Phrase of the Week 030709 is really a collection of phrases in protest. They are highlighted phrases from recaps of California Prop 8 events. I’ve been reading thoughts and testimony on the blog you didn’t know I was reading (www.lesbiandad.com — referenced here and more on that later).
“We don’t walk in your shadow, we grow in your shade.” [Superimposed over photo of Harvey Milk on protest sign]
“We were teaching them the bible. We totally knew passages better than they did.” [Overheard after an encounter between both sides. Hint: the teach-ee was a Vote Yes proponent]
“We are the Jewish community: we pray with our feet.” [protest sign]
“One word came to mind, as ‘No on 8′ / ‘Yes on 8′ chants were competing for every spare inch in the brain: Babel.” [blogger observation]
“Behind every successful person lies a pack of haters.” [back of tshirt]
“A campaign is not a movement. You don’t have to ask for permission to speak, and you don’t need to speak from a script. A movement happens 24 hours a day, seven days a week.” [speaker at Prop 8 Town Hall]
Love it. Hate it. Too poignant to ignore.
